70 injured in hyena attack

CHHINDWARA (MP), MARCH 13. Nearly 70 persons in six villages of Sonsor tehsil, near here were injured, five of them critically, in attacks by a hyena today, a forest officer said here.

The hyena had been attacking villagers and cattle since this morning in Rampeth, Sonsor, Ramakona, Rohana, Seetapar and Pakhandi villages, the Deputy Divisional Forest Officer, Kamal Arora, told reporters.

The critically injuted were rushed to a hospital in Nagpur, he said. The others were treated in the Sonsor Hospital and the Primary Health Centre at Ramakona. The injured were given Rs. 500 each, Mr. Arora said. The hyena had also killed 20 goats and injured an equal number of cattlehead. Around 20 forest officials and policemen were trying to capture the animal, with help from expert of the Pench National Park, he said. — PTI
