Over 400 Congress workers join TDP

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, MARCH 13. Over 400 Congress workers, a majority of them youth, belonging to Darsi Assembly constituency joined the Telugu Desam Party, in the presence of its president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, at his residence here on Sunday.

Responding to questions from media persons later, Mr. Naidu said the State Government has miserably failed to maintain law and order. "The situation is very bad," he added.

Welcoming the Congress workers into the party fold, he said it was indicative of the discontent among the youth towards Government policies. "Congress made big promises of providing 3.5 lakh jobs in six months. But has it done anything." The workers were led by Kadiri Babu and Ramakrishna Reddy.

All that the Government achieved so far was to change the names of the schemes launched by the Telugu Desam. The best example was the International airport at Shamshabad. After all the work was accomplished by the previous TDP Government, the Congress wants to name it after Rajiv Gandhi and get the work launched by Sonia Gandhi, who has no locus standi in the Government. "Instead, they could have requested either the President or the Prime Minister."

Reiterating his demand that the domestic terminal be named after the former Chief Minister, N. T. Rama Rao, he said the party would fight it out if it was not done.
