Book on Tiwari released

NEW DELHI MARCH 13. Calling the Uttaranchal Chief Minister, Narayan Dutt Tiwari, as a man committed for welfare of one and all, the senior Congress leader, Motilal Vora, released a book on the veteran leader in the Capital. The book titled "Narayan Dutt Tiwari -- Sadi Ka Vikas Purush" has been written by K.R. Asthana. Along with Mr. Tiwari, several senior Congress leaders and some ministers of his Cabinet were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tiwari asked people to work for progress and development of the nation. He exhorted citizens to emulate Japanese and Chinese people and take national towards rapid economic and industrial growth to bring prosperity.

Chevrolet celebrates anniversary

NEW DELHI MARCH 13. Chevrolet is celebrating the second anniversary of its arrival in India with a series of Chevrolet mileage rallies across the country.

The Delhi rally was flagged off on Sunday morning by Aditya Vij, President and Managing Director of General Motors India, from the Car Care Centre on Lodhi Road.

"Looking at the success of the Chevrolet in India, I am confident it will substantiate GMs impetus to consolidate its presence in the Indian market and the Asian region. We intend to make Chevrolet the most admired and preferred automotive brand in India," said Mr. Vij.

Selected through a draw of lots from Chevrolet customers in the National Capital Region, the 50 finalists in their Chevies wended their way though the rally route towards Gurgaon. All participants then proceeded to Wet-N-Wild resort, Manesar for a gala time with a sumptuous lunch and lively entertainment including performances by "Joshilay", a renowned music troupe, and unending fun and games for the participants and their families.

`Education city' for Haryana

NEW DELHI MARCH 13. The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, today announced that an "education city" of international standards would soon be developed in the State for providing excellent education to students.

Speaking at the closing session of the International Jat Intellectual Meet in the Capital, Mr. Hooda said 25 per cent seats in the institutes at the education city would be reserved for the students of Haryana.

Designer jewellery launched

NEW DELHI MARCH 13. An extraordinary collection of designer jewellery called Ira was launched this past weekend in the Capital. Ira, which in Sanskrit means Mother Earth, seeks to celebrate the unique qualities of the Indian woman of today.

"Ira is a tribute to a diamond woman", says Rupak Sen, CEO of Ira diamond promoted by D. Navinchandra & Co, among India's largest producers and exporters of diamond jewellery. Ira pieces are crafted in a manner to show minimal metal. The current collection comprises 80 designs across various platforms.

Lal Advani remembered

NEW DELHI MARCH 13. Friends, colleagues and admirers of Lal Advani, a pioneer in the field of disability rehabilitation India, held a condolence meeting in the Capital today and paid him glowing tribute. Remembering him as a leading activist of the rights for disabled, the gathering pledged to carry forward his work in the larger interest of the country.

Despite being visually challenged, Mr. Advani worked for the welfare of the blind and other disabled people. He served as the joint secretary in the Ministry of Social Welfare besides working as the Director of the National Institute for Visually Handicapped in Dehra Dun. He has also been the secretary of the Asian Blind Union. He also received many national as well as international honours.

JNU students stage march

NEW DELHI MARCH 13. To mark the 75th Anniversary of the Dandi March, the residents of Sabarmati Hostel at Jawaharlal Nehru University here marched from their hostel to Raj Ghat on Saturday.

They also organised some cultural shows and took oath to follow the path of truth and non-violence shown by Mahatma Gandhi.
