NEW DELHI, MARCH. 14. The Telugu Desam Party today urged the Centre to intervene and stop a power project being constructed in Karnataka, which, it said, would result in the drought-prone Gadwal and Alampur areas in Mahabubnagar district completely turning dry. Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha, M. Jagannath, said if the 4.5 MW project was completed, "not even a drop of water'' would reach the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme canal and would render 87,000 acres in Mahabubnagar district dry. Dr. Jagannath said efforts to persuade the Karnataka Government had not yet yielded result. He accused Karnataka of violating the inter-state agreement. Karnataka MPs -- Tejswani (Congress) and Anant Kumar (BJP) -- rose in protest. Later, both Dr. Jagannath and the TDPP leader, K. Yerrannaidu, interacted with the Union Water Resources Minister, Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi. The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, was seated next to the Minister. Later, the Congress MP, D. Vithal Rao, too approached the party president and promised to submit a note on the issue.
