Addressing a press conference here today, the chairman of the Tsunami Relief and Rehabilitation Committee, Mon. George Manadan, and the vice-chairman, Fr. Winson Parekkad, CMI, said the projects to be implemented by the Social Action Department of the Archdiocese and the Devamatha Province's Kuriakose Elias Service Society (KESS) would be inaugurated at Keezhmidalam on Wednesday. The projects, estimated to cost Rs.1.5 crores, will include construction of 33 houses and distribution of fishing aids such as mechanised fibre catamaran and nets to 42 families and educational tools to 211 students. The projects will be implemented in close coordination with the district administration. The land for the houses is yet to be acquired by the Tamil Nadu Government. The project is expected to be complete within a year. Replying to questions, they said the money for the projects was being raised through donations from various parts of the country and outside. A group of priests and the laity had visited Keezhmidalam village several times to make an assessment of the rehabilitation requirements there. They decided to undertake the project on a request by the Kottar diocese of the Catholic Church which covers the region.
