CHANDIGARH, MARCH 15. The cream of the country's golfing professionals will vie for supremacy at the Rs. 10 lakh Hero Golf Chandigarh Open 2005 which commences at the par-72, Chandigarh Golf Club on Thursday. The event which forms the 16th leg of the Amby Valley PGAI Tour 2004-05 season, will tee-off with a gala pro-am on Wednesday, followed by a four-day stroke-play contest from the March 17 to 20. The field for the tournament includes 29 of the top 30 golfers on the Amby Valley PGAI Tour's Order of Merit. Leading the challenge would be Money List leader Mukesh Kumar, followed by Ashok Kumar (ranked second), 2002 Indian Open winner Vijay Kumar (ranked fourth), winner of the Patna Open 2004 Rafick Ali (ranked fifth) and local star Ranjit Singh, whose progress this season has been good enough to offer him a sixth position on the Money List. Also participating would be defending champion Harinder Gupta, who became only the fourth Indian to win a professional tournament as an amateur and turned pro immediately. Currently 13th on the Money List, Gupta would be looking to improve on that figure and retaining his title. PTI
