BJP leader's house attacked, car set afire

By Our Staff Correspondent

GUDEKOTE (BELLARY DT.), MARCH 15. The house of a BJP leader, Raghavendra Rao, was attacked and his car set on fire, allegedly by Congress workers here on Monday. Police opened one round of fire in the air to quell a mob that indulged in stone-throwing, in which at least six persons — including three policemen — were injured.

Rivalry between the supporters of the two parties was said to be the reason for the incident.

The villagers said there were minor scuffles, especially after the elections to the gram panchayat, between the supporters of the two parties. The situation in the village is tense but under control.

Additional police force has been deployed in the village.

As many as 23 persons have been taken into custody.
