Naxal threat may hit people's mobilisation for Sonia's meet

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR, MARCH 15. The CPI (Maoist) threat looms large over the district Congress leaders due to the mobilisation of people for the UPA chairperson and AICC president, Sonia Gandhi's public meeting in Secunderabad on Wednesday.

Though, the district Congress committee had decided to mobilise over 1 lakh people for the meeting, but the grass-root level leaders and the local bodies representatives are worried about the mobilisation of people for the meeting.

Already, the local bodies representatives and other party leaders have shifted their base from villages to the towns following the naxalites retaliatory acts after the series of encounters in the district and other parts of the State.

Leaders apprehensive

The mandal level Congress leaders say that they would be able to mobilise people from the towns and municipal areas of the district. "We cannot risk the lives of rural people and other naxalite targets by asking them to attend the meeting," say some leaders.

However, the District Congress leaders are confident of mobilising large number of people from the district for the public meeting.

Arrangements reviewed

The PCC official spokesperson, Mohammed Jani, who visited Karimnagar alongwith the PCC secretary, Niranjan on Tuesday, said that the party was making all efforts to make the meeting a grand success.

He exuded confidence that the party rank and file and general public would come in large numbers to the meeting.

Mr. Jani had reviewed arrangements for the mobilisation of public with the DCC president and Manthani legislator, D. Sridhar, the former legislators -- Bomma Venkateshwar, K. Satyanarayana Goud, and other party leaders.
