KARWAR, MARCH 15. Residents of Karwar and Sadashivgad have opposed the collection of toll by the Department of National Highway from four-wheelers crossing the Kali bridge. The bridge which provides a vital link between Karnataka and Goa was built in 1983. The Department has been collecting the toll since the bridge was commissioned 22 years ago. While the total cost of the bridge was Rs. 4 crores, a toll of Rs. 5.14 crores was collected by the department till 2004, the people alleged. Gangadhar Bhat, MLA, and K.R.Desai, president of Consumers Forum, have warned that they will launch an agitation on March 19 if the collection of toll is not stopped immediately.
