Dharwad
By Our Special Correspondent
DHARWAD, MARCH 15. Chandrasekhar Patil, president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, has called upon the district units to mobilise their own resources to meet the maintenance expenditure. Speaking at the executive committee meeting of the Dharwad unit of the parishat here on Sunday, Prof. Patil said the district units can find resources through sale of books and rents from buildings. The parishat is prepared to initially provide books costing around Rs. 10,000 at half the price and the district units can give a subsidy of 10 to 15 per cent on them and retain the remaining amount, he said. Mr. Patil said the scheme for the sale of books at concessional rates started by at the Parishat's head office in Bangalore has been well received. Transactions to the tune of Rs. 1 lakh are taking place every Saturday, he said. Similar ventures have been taken up in Kolar and Mysore on an experimental basis and the response has been encouraging. He said he will explore the possibility of enlisting the participation of different academies in the sale of books and other programmes. D.M. Hiremath welcomed the members of the committee. Madhu Venkareddy, president of the district unit, spoke.
