CHIKMAGALUR, MARCH 15. The one-man inquiry commission appointed by the State Government to submit a report on the death of two naxalites in an encounter near Menasinahadya in Koppa taluk on February 6 failed to get fresh clues during the inquiry conducted in the village on Monday. Chiranjeevi Singh, Additional Chief Secretary and State Development Commissioner, visited the village and conducted an inquiry in a field opposite the Menasinahadya Primary School. It was evident from the villagers' statements that a sense of insecurity and fear prevails in the area. Appe Gowda told the commission that six armed men had come to his house on the day before the encounter at around 7 p.m. and inquired about the whereabouts of his brother, Sheshadraiah. After ascertaining that Sheshadraiah was not at home, they had asked for food and said that they were fighting on behalf of the peasants. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Singh said he will try to submit a report to the Government before March 31. He pointed out that he has received neither the second post mortem report of the naxalites nor the ballistic report. He said he will ask the Government to extend the deadline if the reports are delayed.
