BELGAUM, MARCH 15. The Minister for Agriculture Marketing and district in-charge, Prakash B. Hukkeri, has said that any increase in revenue will be spent on irrigation programmes in the State. According to an official press release here on Tuesday, he said that the State's total revenue for 2004-05 accounted for Rs. 10,000 crores, including Rs. 230 crores from Belgaum district. He said that the contribution by way of taxes would come back in the form of development. A substantial amount has been spent on the Upper Krishna Project, the Hippargi barrage, and several other irrigation programmes. The Government was also prepared to take up works on Kalsa-Banduri nala Diversion Project as soon as the Union Government clears it. Mr. Hukkeri assured of taking up difference on tax slabs in Karnataka and neighbouring States, which was adversely affecting the State's income. He felt that commercial activities in the district would expand by increasing connectivity. The district needs air services at night. Deccan Airways has flights between Bangalore and Mumbai during the day, he said.
