BANGALORE, MARCH 15. The State Government will notify draft rules on Value Added Tax (VAT), to be introduced from April 1, on Wednesday, the Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Siddaramaiah, has said.
Awareness campaigns

He said that awareness among the consumers on weights and measures, quality of goods, and prices will help check malpractices. A large number of middlemen cheat consumers and producers through false advertisement campaigns. However, the quality goods always enhances competitiveness in the market and protects the consumers' rights, he said. The United Nations has been observing March 15 as the World Consumers' Day since 1982.

Mr. Siddaramaiah released a cover containing the message "You have the consumer rights. You have the power" brought out by the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and the Postal Department. The Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, H.S.
