NEW DELHI, MARCH 15. The Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL), A. K. Sinha, has endorsed the proposal for unification of MTNL with BSNL, arguing that if the Government executed the move `it will establish a synergy.' Addressing members of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) at a panel discussion on `Accelerating broadband through convergence', Mr. Sinha said that a report of the committee that looked into the possibility of merging MTNL with BSNL had been submitted to the government, a copy of which had also come to BSNL. The BSNL management was weighing the pros and cons of the report and favoured making MTNL its subsidiary. Mr. Sinha said that the final decision to this effect would have to be taken by the government. As far as the BSNL was concerned, it favoured an early decision on the issue. The BSNL would submit its response in the next few days.
