GHAZIABAD, MARCH 15. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, today lauded the role played by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in securing the country's key economic installations thereby creating a secure environment that was essential for the country's development and economic progress. Addressing the officers and jawans of the force on the occasion of its 36th Raising Day here, Dr. Singh said: "the dedication, hard work and friendly approach of the force has seen it grow.'' The CISF had grown into a large organisation and taken up new responsibilities apart from industrial security. It was given the job of airport security following the Kandahar hijacking in 1999 to prevent recurrence of a similar incident.
Disaster management
Dr. Singh, who also took salute at the parade, hailed the role played by the CISF in the field of disaster management by being the first team to reach Port Blair in the wake of the tsunami disaster. The Director General of the CISF, K.M. Singh, urged Dr. Singh to rename the force as Central Security Force. The Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, and the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, T.V. Rajeshwar, attended the function.
