Manmohan's assurance to minorities

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MARCH 15. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, today assured a delegation of Muslim members of Parliament — who called on him under the leadership of the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, E. Ahamad — that neglect of minorities was a thing of the past and the Government would address all their legitimate demands.

In a memorandum submitted to Dr. Singh, the MPs — representing a cross-section of parties except the Bharatiya Janata Party — brought up issues relating to the allocation of adequate funds for the Maulana Azad Education Foundation, the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation, and scholarship for meritorious poor girl students.
