Elia to lead

HYDERABAD, MARCH 14. V. Elia will lead the State team in the 61st senior National hockey championship for men. The Hyderabad Hockey Association (HHA) selected the team after a three-day camp.

The HHA president, Mr. Umesh Kumar, thanked the State Government and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) for coming forward in a big way to sponsor the event with Indian Airlines and Kirtilal Jewellers as co-sponsors.

Ms. Sumita Dawra, VC & MD of SAAP, said that besides providing the infrastructure free of cost the SAAP would also give Rs. 10 lakhs as first the instalment of financial assistance to conduct the event. "In fact, we offered to host the Nationals since it will be one year ahead of the Commonwealth Games and three years before the next Olympics. Our objective was to see the infrastructure put to optimum use," she said.

The Andhra Pradesh Governor, Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde, will be the chief guest for the valedictory function.
