Vijayawada
By Our Special Correspondent
VIJAYAWADA, MARCH 15. Following a spate of complaints of irregularities in the sale of plots at Payakapuram on the city outskirts, the authorities appear to have finally set in motion the process to rectify the lapses. The VGTM-UDA secretary, Ch. Bhanu Prasad, conducted an open inquiry to listen to the grievances of people who purchased the plots there. The move came after a probe conducted by the Vigilance and Enforcement wing confirming complaints of several irregularities in the allocation and sale of plots at Payakapuram. While there was "deliberate under-valuation" of several plots, instances of sale of same plot to more than one party were also noticed.
Notices served
Once the V&E submitted its report, the UDA served notices on all plot-owners stating that the previous registration had been cancelled following detection of irregularities.
Plot owners throng venue
This was followed by the open inquiry in which several plot owners accompanied by their lawyers thronged the venue to show the documents they received at the time of registration. While the officials tried to convince the owners of the charges of irregularities at the administrative officer's level, the owners, in turn, pointed to documents showing that the administrative officer was delegated powers by the then vice-chairman of the UDA. They were, however, pacified after Mr. Bhanu Prasad assured them that the matter was being thoroughly inquired and any action into the issue would be initiated after obtaining the final report.
