PATNA, MARCH 15. The Patna High Court today asked the Bihar Government to ensure the arrest of nearly 20,000 absconding criminals by March 30. After hearing arguments on two PILs filed by Bihar unit of IMA and social worker Ajay Bhattacharya, a division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Nagendra Roy and Mr Justice S N Hussain ordered the Bihar government to take all suitable steps for putting nearly 20,000 absconding criminals behind bars. The bench also directed the government to submit a report on March 30, informing the court whether its order had been complied with. The bench also asked jail authorities to install jammers in all jails of the state, taking exception to non-compliance to its earlier order on the same issue. The court observed that delay in installation of jammers was only giving opportunities to criminals to operate from behind bars. The court had asked all concerned jail authorities to remain present before it on March 23. Meanwhile, the bench had asked the government pleader to submit a report by March 30, informing whether RJD MP Mohammed Shahabuddin violated jail manual when he went to Buxar jail to meet an Independent MLA recently. - UNI
