Probe ordered into blast during mock drill

SALEM, MARCH 15. The Collector, A. Sukumaran, today ordered the Additional District Magistrate (District Revenue Officer) to probe the explosion that occurred during a mock drill conducted by the Quick Reaction Force on Friday at a private college.

In the incident, one girl died and two others were injured.

The DRO, T.P. Rajesh, will organise public hearings on March 22 and 23 at his office in the Collectorate complex. People having any information about this incident can record their statements during the hearing.

Mr. Rajesh said his office today issued notices to witnesses to appear before him. Before the start of the hearing, he would visit the scene of occurrence and the two injured girls who were receiving treatment at a private hospital.

The Revenue Divisional Officer, Thakshinamoorthy, has completed his preliminary inquiry and is expected to submit his report soon, district officials said.

Today, the Central Law College students staged a demonstration on the Yercaud road.

They demanded the Government to pay Rs. 10 lakhs as compensation to the family of Deepalakshmi who died in the incident.

They also wanted Rs. 2 lakhs each to the injured girls. The police personnel pacified the students.
