No move to fell trees on canal banks

By Our Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA, MARCH 15. The Alappuzha District Collector, K.R. Muraleedharan, has said that there is no move from the part of the Government to cut down trees on the banks of the canals in the town.

In a statement here today, Mr. Muraleedharan, who is also the chief organiser of a canal beautification project, said that at a meeting on canal beautification held in February last year some of the participants had said that the first phase of the development of the canals could be completed only if old trees were cut down.

But the first phase has been completed without cutting even a single tree, the Collector said.
