3 Achuthanandan loyalists out of district secretariat

By Our Staff Reporter

THRISSUR, MARCH 15. The CPI(M) district committee has constituted its district secretariat by excluding three loyalists of the Leader of the Opposition and polit bureau member, V.S. Achuthanandan.

The three ousted members are T. Sasidharan, K.F. Davies and C.K. Kumaran. N.R. Balan, M.M. Verghese and Babu M. Palissery have been inducted as the new members.

A.C. Moideen, MLA, is another newly-elected member to the secretariat. All of them are reported to be supporters of the party State Secretary, Pinarai Vijayan. The other six members who have been elected to the district secretariat are P.R. Rajan, Baby John, Ambadi Venu, A. Padmanabhan, A.S.N. Nambeesan and K.V. Peethambaran.

The State committee members C.O. Paulose Master, K.K. Padmanabhan, K.K. Mamakutty and K.P. Aravindakshan will also be the members of the district secretariat.

Keenly-watched

The former district secretary E.P. Jayarajan also attended the district committee meeting which elected the secretariat. The formation of the district secretariat of the CPI(M) was a keenly-watched affair as the district had witnessed bitter factional feuds in the previous elections.

Even though the Achuthanandan faction had wrested the district committee in the last elections, the party's State leadership had dissolved that committee alleging factionalism.

A new organisational committee with Mr. Jayarajan as secretary was then appointed to manage the party affairs in the district. The election of the district committee was, however, conducted this time at the district conference held in Guruvayur in the first week of January and Mr. P.R. Rajan from the Pinarai faction was elected the district secretary.

However, the formation of the district secretariat was getting delayed apparently because of the traces of factionalism that was remaining. The victory of the Pinarai faction at the State conference of the party in Malappuram seems to have given the necessary confidence to the district committee to go ahead with the constitution of the district secretariat by ensuring lead to the faction.
