Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, MARCH 15. The sky will be partly cloudy on Wednesday with the maximum temperature around 33 degrees and the minimum around 24 degrees Celsius.

On Tuesday, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam stations recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees and 33.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum recordings were 24.0 and 23.8 degrees Celsius respectively. The humidity recorded at 8-30 p.m on Tuesday at Nungambakkam was 72 per cent and at Meenambakkam 70 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended on Thursday in Santhome area between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Last date extended

The last date has been extended to April 4 for the Joint Entrance Examination for admission to B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration for the year 2005-06 in Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Taramani.

Candidates may obtain applications by drawing demand draft of Rs. 800 for general category and Rs.400 for SC/ST in favour of National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, payable at New Delhi.

Micro-credits

Asha Nivas, a voluntary organisation issued micro-credits of Rs. 50 lakhs to 330 self-help groups for setting up micro-enterprises as part of International Women's Day on Saturday. An exhibition of self-help groups' products was also held.

Medical camp

About 700 villagers of Kasuva village near Tiruninravur were screened at a medical camp at Sevalaya Service Centre on Sunday. A team of 30 doctors from various specialities such as dental, dermatology and neurology examined the villagers in the camp organised by the Chennai Metro West District Sai Samithis. Twenty persons were referred for free cataract surgery.

Thirukkural course

A free course on the Thirukkural will be conducted from April 17 at Tiruvallur Temple, Mylapore between 6.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. on weekdays. The last date for registering for the 3-month course, open for everyone, is March 31. The course is jointly organised by Mylai Thiruvalluvar Tamizh Sangam, Thiruvalluvar Thirukkoil and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment department.
