NEW DELHI, MARCH 15. The Chief Justice R.C. Lahoti today took a dig at Ministers who give speeches on what must be done, whereas they themselves represented the government and should act. Delivering the key-note address on the World Consumer Rights Day at a function organised by the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Mr. Justice Lahoti said he was ``a little surprised and even amused'' to hear Union Ministers, Sharad Pawar, and H.R. Bharadwaj, say that the consumer fora should be efficient, effective and given more teeth, whereas they themselves were the government. ``They are the persons who have to act.'' He added in a lighter vein that maybe the National Consumer Commission should take suo motu cognisance of deficiency in service which is well-defined in the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 on the part of the government. ``It is the government which has to discharge its obligation in strengthening consumer fora,'' he added.
