Couple held on cheating charge

HYDERABAD, MARCH 15. A couple, accused of cheating people in the name of solving their difficulties through `tantrik' methods, was arrested by the South Zone police on Tuesday.

Ibrahim Khan and Munna Bajji allegedly took away Rs. 10,000 in cash and gold ornaments weighing four tolas from Ismail Khan of Jahanuma after making him believe that his problems could be sorted out by invoking spiritual powers.

Earlier, the couple allegedly cheated a housewife, Shakeera Begum, of the same locality in a similar way, the South Zone DCP, Mahesh M. Bhagawat, told a press conference. The couple collected Rs. 11,000 in cash and three tolas gold from Ms. Begum.

In addition to booking a cheating case, the police invoked the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act against the accused.

Four others - Shoukat Ali, Mir Nayeem, Shahensha and Navid Ali - who alleged collected Rs. 40,000 from Khalid Hussain by promising to cure him of his paralysis, were arrested by the Hussainialam police.

Financier held

In another case, a financier, Shajahan (45), who was allegedly collecting 300 per cent interest on loan amounts, was arrested by the Chandrayanagutta police.
