HYDERABAD, MARCH 15. If the Ranga Reddy District Court Complex became the battleground for rivals to settle scores a fortnight ago, it was the turn of the Nampally Criminal Courts Complex on Tuesday. Four sickle-wielding assailants tried to kill a murder accused on the court premises, leaving advocates, police and people shell-shocked. Rajender Reddy (35) presented himself in the MSJ court and was about to start his scooter when the assailants struck, injuring him on head and shoulders. "We mistook him for an advocate as he was clad in a white shirt and rushed to his rescue," senior lawyer, N. Ramchandar Rao, said. The assailants took to their heels on seeing Mr. Ramchandar Rao and others. They ran towards the adjoining Horticulture Department office and escaped. . "No policeman from the court's out-post in the complex was willing to come out even after being informed about the crime," Mr. Ramchandar Rao alleged. The police found two sickles on the spot and another one at a nearby building. A profusely bleeding Reddy was rushed to Global Hospital and later shifted to Osmania General Hospital. His condition was stated to be critical.
