COIMBATORE, MARCH 15. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) and the Transport Department conducted a drive against excess emission by vehicles. This is to ensure that all vehicles had Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and the vehicles adhered to the prescribed norms for emission levels. The drives were conducted on March 1 and 8 at Kuniamuthur and on the Trichy Road. To sustain the momentum, a drive was organised today on the Avanashi Road. A team of TNPCB officials, along with the transport department staff led by the District Enviornment Engineer, K. Elankumaran, checked 30 vehicles. Five vehicles were found to be emitting smoke in excess of the permissible levels. The motorists were advised to ensure periodical maintenance of vehicles before driving them. The Transport Department booked cases against four vehicle-owners.
