Robbers take away valuables from policeman's house

BANGALORE, MARCH 15. A five-member gang took away Rs. 1 lakh in cash and gold and silver ornaments worth Rs. 75,000 from the house of a police constable in Sheshagiripalya in Nelamangala police station limits in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police said five persons came to the house of Chinnappa, who has been posted to the office of a Director General and Inspector General of Police, around 1.30 a.m. and asked him to come out, saying that a senior police official had come to see him. When he opened the door, they assaulted him and snatched his gun. They also assaulted Chinnappa's wife and two daughters.

The robbers, who spoke Tamil and Kannada, took away Rs. 1 lakh in cash, which was part of the money Chinnappa had got from sale of property. They took gold ornaments, including those worn by Chinnappa's wife and daughters, and fled after locking the house, the police said.

Woman robbed

Two persons entered a bank employee's house in Gayatri Nagar in Subramanya Nagar police station limits on Tuesday afternoon and robbed his wife of four gold chains.

The police said Nagarathnamma (50), who was alone at home, opened the door when two persons came and asked for water to drink. When she went inside to fetch water, they entered the house and locked the front door. They assaulted Nagarathnamma and snatched two gold chains worn by her. They also broke open a locker and took two more gold chains. Her husband, Vishwanath Nayak, is an officer in the Magadi Road branch of Vijaya Bank, the police said.

Another incident

A few persons in a van robbed a person of Rs. 1,200 in cash and a gold ring after offering him a lift to his house in Koramangala on Monday night.

According to the police, B.M. Prashant, an employee in a transport company, was waiting for a bus in Banashankari around 11.30 p.m. A few persons who came there in a van offered to give him a lift. Prashant got into the van. When they had travelled a distance, the persons assaulted Prashant, took away his cash and gold ring, and left him near 46th Cross, Marenahalli. The Jayanagar police have registered a case.
