Property tax relaxation for many colonies

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH 15. Making yet another amendment in the categorisation of colonies and industrial estates under the Unit Area Method of property tax, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi today reduced the categories of three dozen estates and also of a similar number of residential colonies.

At a meeting of the MCD House today, it was noted that a series of discussion was held between representatives of industrial and trade associations and the Corporation officials over the issue.

The trade associations argued that many industrial estates were set up in the 1960s when a move was taken to promote small-scale industries in Delhi.

But now with the introduction of new tax regime, these estates and colonies were burdened with tax. On their plea, the Corporation decided to re-categorise these areas by lowering their categories.

As per the new amendments made in the list, a majority of 36 estates that were under categories D, E and F have been placed under category G.

The industrial areas that would benefit from the change include Badli, Dilkhush Bagh, DLF, Dr. Lohia, GT Karnal Road, Jehangirpuri, Jhilmil, Karampura, Kirti Nagar, Lawrance Road, Loha Mandi, Mangolpuri, Mayapuri, Mohan Cooperative, Moti Bagh (Karol Bagh), Najafgarh Road, Naraina, Okhla, Patparganj, Pitampura, Rajasthan Udyog Nagar, Rampura, Udyog Nagar, Wazirpur, Anand Parbat, Dilshad Garden, Friends Colony, Narela, Peera Garhi, Sangam Park, Tilak Nagar, Nangloi and Shahzada Bagh.

Similarly the colonies adjoining these industrial areas that have been given property tax relaxation include Jeevan Park, Dilkhush Bagh, Kailash Park, Electricity Colony (Punjabi Bagh), Gilahari Bagh, Ramgarh, Viskarma Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Ashok Vihar, Krishi Kunj, Paschim Enclave, Nanak Pura (Mayapuri), Sarita Vihar, East Moti Bagh (Karol Bagh), Shubhadra Colony, SBM Colony, Saraswati Garden, Sukhdev Vihar, Shyam Nagar, Dayanand Vihar, West Enclave. Shalimar Extension, Shakurpur Colony, Paschim Enclave, Chuna Lal Park, Anand Parbat, Dilshad Garden, Friends Colony, Narela, Pira Garhi Relief Camp, Sangam Park, Tilak Nagar, Nangloi Extension and Shahzada Bagh Extension.

15 per cent rebate

Meanwhile, according to a agency report the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) today announced a blanket 15 per cent rebate on property tax.

The discount comes as an additional benefit especially for Delhi's senior citizens who already enjoy a 20 per cent rebate.

Relevant adjustments will be made in the next fiscal for property owners who have paid their tax for the current financial year.
