NAGAPATTINAM, MARCH 16. The State Government has allocated about Rs.73 lakhs for providing relief to the farmers of Nagapattinam district whose paddy crops were affected by the tsunami, said J. Radhakrishnan, Collector, here today. He said that after an inspection by the top officials of the Agriculture and Horticulture departments and by TNAU experts, it was found that paddy crops in 4,415.60 hectares were affected. Based on the reports, the Government had allocated Rs. 72.57 lakhs to Nagapattinam district for providing relief at the rate of Rs. 2,500 per hectare to the irrigated lands to the small and marginal farmers and Rs. 1,000 per hectare for the crops raised in `manavari' lands for both small and big farmers. All the farmers will get Rs. 4,000 per hectare for horticultural crops. He pointed out that besides the relief amount, the Government had also issued orders to provide agricultural inputs worth Rs. 12,500 per hectare to those farmers, whose lands were spoiled by the tsunami.
