RAMANNAPET (NALGONDA DT.), MARCH 16. Tempers of policemen ran high here on Wednesday when the Home Minister, K.Jana Reddy, and the Director-General of Police, Swaranjit Sen, reached the Government hospital to pay tributes to the three policemen gunned down by Maoists at Malkapur in Chowtuppal mandal on Tuesday night. The irate colleagues of Mohammed Jilani, (50), and Sattaiah, (35), of Chityal police station and Ahmed Pasha, (45), of Bhoodan Pochampally PS, raised slogans against the naxals and the Maoist representatives. They asked them to impose ban on Maoists and give capital punishments to Gaddar and Varavara Rao, who according to them are `traitors.' "Tit for tat and blood for blood,'' they said.
Ban sought
``Sir, there is no protection for us and our family members. Give us free hand and we will wipe them out in six months,'' the State president of the Police Officers' Association, Anantaramulu, said. He explained to the Minister the predicaments of the constabulary in the State. Another policeman said that cops could not live in villages due to the threat perception.
Killings condemned
Another cop asked the Minister to withdraw Rakshak vehicles being used to help the accident victims on the national highway forthwith. Consoling a woman member of a bereaved family, Mr. Jana Reddy said: "They (naxals) don't have a policy or philosophy.'' He further said that the Government would take necessary steps after making an assessment of the situation. When a leader of the Police Officers' Association said that they wanted to call for a district bandh tomorrow, the Minister responded positively. The policemen in the district sported black badges mourning the death of the three cops. The bodies were brought to the district police headquarters in the afternoon.
