THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 16. Lifters from RSC, Chennai dominated the show on the opening day of the all-India Civil Services powerlifting championship at the Jimmy George indoor stadium here on Wednesday. S.V. Shaji and D. Ilayaraj won golds in 56kg and 60kg weight categories respectively as RSC, Chennai took two of the three golds at stake on the first day of competition. Illayaraj took the gold in the 60kg category on lower body weight as he was tied with S. Tandelu (Indore) in total lift (537.5kg). Ammen Yadav of RSC, Uttar Pradesh won the gold in 52kg category pushing Chennai's Jayapal to second spot. Defending champion, RSC, Kerala had an indifferent start as it won only one bronze through G. Sivaprasad in the 60kg category.
52kg: 1. Ameen Yadav (UP) 382.5kg (130, 82.5, 170); 2. S. Jayapal (Chennai) 305kg (105, 55, 145).
56kg: 1. S.V. Shaji (Chennai) 435kg (155, 95, 185); 2. Avdesh Kumar Tiwari (UP) 415kg (155, 82.5, 177.5); 3. Sanjay Billore (Indore) 360kg (130, 75, 155).
60kg: 1. D. Ilayaraja (Chennai) 537.5kg (210, 110, 217.5); 2. S. Tandelu (Indore) 537.5kg (205, 142.5, 190); 3. G. Sivaprasad (Kerala) 485kg (190, 85, 210).
