Perot Systems sets up new facility in Chennai

CHENNAI, MARCH 16. Perot Systems, Texas-based IT, BPO and consulting firm, has inaugurated its new facility in Chennai today. The new business process solutions facility has come up in over 67,000 sq. ft. of built-up area having a seat capacity of 840.

The Chennai centre will provide integrated solutions for healthcare businesses, which will include hospital billing, life insurance, claims processing and patient care expertise. The company plans to add some 800 people to its IT services and business process operations here in the current year. At present, it has 4,500 people in India, of which 1,600 are in the business process operations and the rest are with its IT services operations.

Addressing a press conference, Perot Systems President and CEO, Peter Altabef, said the company was in the process of expansion across the country. At present, it has offices in Bangalore, Nodia and Chennai. It was also looking at Tier II cities for another centre. He said nearly 8.5 per cent of the total revenue came from India and he hoped that this would increase substantially.

Commenting on the business opportunities, Mr. Ross Perot Jr., Chairman - Perot Systems said, his company was looking at countries such as Russia, Philippines and other East European countries. Perot Systems' India operations would be an emerging global delivery model of integrated IT, BPO and consulting solutions.

Mr. Peter Altabef said the company would continue to look at acquisitions both in India and overseas. About one-third of the company's 15,000 global workforce operate out of India and was keen to expand its operations, he added. The company's headcount grew in India by 20-24 per cent last year.
