CHITRADURGA, MARCH 16. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination in all the 83 centres in the district. A total of 26,880 students in the district will appear for the examinations scheduled from March 17 to March 24. Speaking to The Hindu on Wednesday, L. Rangappa, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, said that special arrangements have been made to prevent malpractices at all the centres. Nine centres have been identified as sensitive.
Squads
Sitting squads will be sent on rotation basis to all the examination centres on the day of examination. They will monitor the proceedings on a day-to-day basis. Vigilance squads under the leadership of Block Education Officers have been entrusted with the job of supervising of the examination at all the centres in the taluks. Three mobile squads at district level will tour the district to pay surprise visits. Severe deterrent measures will be initiated against the institutions, invigilators, and candidates who indulge in examination malpractices. The district administration has assured to provide police security at all the centres and section 144 has been promulgated in 200-meter radius around the examination centres. Criminal proceedings will be initiated against the students who resort to any kind of examination malpractice leading up to a fine of Rs. 10,000 fine and one year imprisonment. Invigilators will be suspended and criminal and departmental action will be initiated against them, he said. The question papers will be in four series for all subjects, as was the practice last year. Students are expected to write their register numbers and name of the series on their answer sheets. Answer sheets without these will not be evaluated. The evaluation camps will commence work from March 30 in seven centres at the district headquarters, he said.
Cluster system
Cluster system will be introduced at the taluk-levels this year. A list of eligible candidates of all schools in a town will be prepared and then the examination centres will be announced. The system has been introduced to check malpractice. The officials of the Education Department appreciated the cluster system. However, a few parents are apprehensive. "Though the system was introduced at the district-level last year, malpractice did not stop," they said.
