BJP panel to compile history

HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party president, N. Indrasena Reddy, has set up a six-member committee to compile the party's history in the State in connection with its silver jubilee celebrations.

P.V. Chalapati Rao, vice-president, is the chairman of the committee and Baddam Bal Reddy the convener. Other members are -- Chilakam Ramachandra Reddy, former party president, C. Janga Reddy, ex-MP, Kolimarla Venkateswara Rao, special invitee to State executive, and M.D. Rama Rao of Vijayawada.

Paritala case: court gets material

ANANTAPUR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the Paritala Ravindra murder case, on Wednesday, handed over the bullets and sharpnel recovered from the body of Ravindra during the post-mortem and re-post-mortem to the AJFCM court here.

They also submitted to the court a cell phone seized from the T. Konda Reddy, one of the conspiracy suspects, who was arrested last week. Video clippings and photographs taken by television news channels and newspapers on the TDP meeting and Ravindra murder on January 24 were also submitted to the court.

Post-mortem of bodies ordered

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday directed authorities to conduct post-mortem of the bodies of naxalites of the Janashakti group who were killed in Karimnagar on Tuesday as per the guidelines issued by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

These interim orders were passed in a writ petition filed by Chandranna, representative of the CPI(ML), Janasakthi group. The bench comprising Chief Justice Devinder Gupta and Justice B. Seshasayana Reddy directed that the postmortem be videographed and follow the NHRC guidelines.

Maoists warn Congressmen

Sangaredddy: Several Congress workers from Medak district who were on their way to Secunderabad to attend the public meeting were either warned or stopped by Maoists on Wednesday. At Kalgoor village of Mirdoddi mandal on Rajiv Rahadari, unidentified militants stopped vehicles in the afternoon and told the workers to return home or face the consequences. Efforts by Congress leaders to transport people from Gajwel, Dubbaka, and Midoddi mandals were hit by the standing instructions of naxals. However there has been no such trouble in the Narsapur and Sangareddy areas.

Sarpanch dies in accident

Sangareddy: Satyanarayan Reddy (25), sarpanch from Lingayapalli of Papannapet mandal, died in a freak accident near Toopran on Wednesday while he was on his way to Sonia Gandhi's public meeting in Hyderabad. The sarpanch after having tea near Toopran on National Highway-7, was crossing the road when a jeep hit him killing him on the spot.

NIFT entrance results out

HYDERABAD: The National Institute of Fashion Technology at Madhapur has declared the results of its entrance examination held on February 6 for admission into its under-graduate and post-graduate programmes.

Results have been displayed on the institute's notice board and can also be accessed on its website: www.niftindia.com. Results of the under-graduate design programme are likely to be declared on March 24. For more details, contact on phone: 23110841,42 & 43.

AU student ranks 2nd in GATE

VISAKHAPATNAM: A final year student of the chemical engineering branch of Andhra University College of Engineering, P.V. Gopala Rao, secured second rank in the GATE at all-India level.

Mr. Gopala Rao secured 99.97 percentile, according to a press release from the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, P.S. Sankara Rao, on Wednesday.

Kakarla re-elected

HYDERABAD: Kakarla Subbarao was re-elected president of the Andhra Pradesh branch of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association for 2005-067 at the annual general body meeting here last week. The other office-bearers are -- T. Mandapal, S. Rammurti (vice-president), L.T. Kishore (general secretary), N. Kavitha (joint secretary) and Ravuri Power (treasurer), according to a press release issued by the association here on Wednesday.

Another miner killed in mishap

ADILABAD: Another person, Poojari Shankar (48), a coal cutter at the Chennur mine I of the Singareni Collieries, died on Wednesday when the roof of the underground mine caved in. According to police, the miner, a resident of Chennur, was removing coal from the mine after a blast when the roof collapsed on him. The mishap occurred at 5.25 a.m.

Meanwhile, the bodies of Gunda Mallesh, Gudisela Laxman and Gudisela Ramulu were recovered from the debris of the closed mine at Bellampalli. They were buried alive when the roof caved in on Tuesday evening.

ENC missile firing exercise

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Eastern Naval Command (ENC) organised a missile firing exercise by the two missile boats INS Chamak and INS Chapal at the sea during the visit of Chief of Navy, Admiral Arun Prakash, here on Wednesday. However, due to a technical snag, INS Chapal couldn't carry out the firing.

The two ships that belong to the OSA class missile boats and the P-15 missiles are due for decommissioning on May 5. Admiral Arun Prakash, after witnessing the entire exercise, left by a helicopter from INS Rajput.

The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ENC, O.P. Bansal, and his Southern Command counterpart, S.C.S. Bangara, Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Fleet, S.K. Damle, Rear Admiral (Rtd.) S.R. Sampath Gopal, Commodore (Rtd.) V. Jerath, and Captain (Rtd.) M.V. Prabhakar were also present.

Tirumala devotee rescued

TIRUMALA: The TTD vigilance sleuths and the Tirumala Police on Wednesday rescued a woman, Manju (22), a native of Kadiri, who accidentally slipped and fell into a deep valley on Tirumala footpath, while on her way to the temple town.

According to the Tirumala police, security personnel, who were on duty, heard the screams and alerted their higher ups. The police swung into action and rescued her.

Killed in polyester unit mishap

Sangareddy: Venkat Reddy (25), a native of Vemulapalli village of Nalgonda district, who was injured when the lid of an autoclave hit him on Tuesday night, died in Gandhi Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday. The mishap occurred at L.N. Polyester unit at Kardanoor village of Patancheru mandal.

NELLORE: In view of the decision taken by the Directorate of Employment, all those candidates whose employment cards have lapsed due to non-renewal between March 2002 to December 2004, can now renew the same at the nearest employment office during working hours before March 31. This facility is also available through registered post.

Madigas plan

`chalo Hyderabad'

CUDDAPAH: Scheduled Castes will organise `Chalo Hyderabad' on April 25 to exert pressure on the Government to reclassify SCs, the MRPS district president, K. Bhaskar, said on Wednesday.

Lamenting the Supreme Court ruling on classification, he urged the 70 lakh Madigas in the State to wage a united battle for micro-classification from the village-level, he appealed.

An all-party mahasabha would be held on April 25 and national leaders of Congress, TDP, BJP, CPI, CPI(M), TRS and AIMIM were being invited, he said.

TIRUPATI: The India International Friendship Society has presented `Rashtriya Gaurav Award' and a citation to M. Nagaraja Rao, who retired as Engineer-in-Chief in the Public Health and Municipal department, at a function in Hyderabad recently. At the same event, another organisation, Indian Institute of Success Awareness presented an award to R. Harinadha Reddy, correspondent of a private junior college. Both of them received the award from the Assembly speaker, K.R.Suresh Reddy, in the presence of his Orissa counterpart.

Potti Sriramulu

NELLORE: The supreme sacrifice of Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu was recalled at a function held at Pavani English Medium High School, Nellore, on Wednesday to mark the 104th birth anniversary of the martyr. The correspondent, E. Venugopal, referred to various facets of Sriramulu's life. Earlier the students garlanded Potti Sriramulu statue at Mulapet.

Free clinic

Tirupati: Eminent Cardiologist, Dr. Cherian, would be leading a 9-member team of doctors to participate in the paediatric cardiology free out-patient clinic to be run by the TTD's super specialities hospital here -- SVIMS on March, 19. According to the Medical Superintendent of SVIMS, T. Raghuram Guptha, the team would be from the K.M. Cherian International Institute of Cardio Vascular and Torasic diseases, Chennai and it would participate in the free clinic in coordination with their counterparts in the SVIMS.

Coal seized

NELLORE: The forest officials have seized 36 bags of coal, stored illegally in Nimmavanitippa village of Vakadu mandal. Acting on a tip off, the authorities raided the `manufacturing centres' and seized the stocks.
