THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 16. The Cabinet today reconstituted the State Planning Board with the former Minister C.V. Padmarajan as the vice-chairman. The Board, headed by the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, will have the CMP leader C.P. John, Director of Bangalore National Law School, Mohan Gopal, and the Congress leader Philippose Thomas as members besides the Finance Minister, Vakkom Purushothaman, the Education Minister, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, the Revenue Minister, K.M. Mani, and the Agriculture Minister, K.R. Gouri. The Secretary (Planning), S.M. Vijayanand, will continue as member secretary. The Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Finance) are permanent invitees. The Cabinet took the decision to reconstitute the Board as the vice-chairman, V. Ramachandran, expressed his wish to quit the post this month. Mr. Padmarajan, who replaces him, had earlier served as KPCC president (1983-87), Minister for Finance (1995-96), Minister for Electricity (1991-95) and Minister for Community Development and Fisheries (1982-83). He is a lawyer by profession. The Cabinet decided to appoint L. Radhakrishnan as the Forest Secretary and G. Rajasekharan as Commissioner of Guruvayur Devaswom Board. K. Suresh Kumar was named the Additional Secretary (Science and Technology). The Mannom Sugar Mills Cooperative Society will be given no-objection certificate to start an Ayurveda College.
