Circular stayed

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, MARCH 16. The Madras High Court has stayed a Handlooms Department circular that stipulates that if handloom goods supplied to showrooms are not sold within six months, the cost of the stock, along with a penalty, will be recovered from the staff members of the showroom concerned.

Justice P.D. Dinakaran granted the interim stay on the operation of the February 24 circular, on a petition filed by the Tamil Nadu Kaithari Nesavaalar Kootturavu Sanga Oozhiyargal Sangam. The circular also said the managers and production supervisors would be responsible for the supply of required stocks in time, and in case of any delay, recoveries would be made from them for the non-supply of stocks. The circular was to come into effect from March 1.

Calling upon the employees to give an undertaking to this effect, the circular said those who were not willing to accept the conditions would be sent on compulsory retirement or voluntary retirement, the sangam alleged.
