HYDERABAD, MARCH 16. Four robbers took away Rs. 2 lakhs and gold ornaments weighing 15 tolas from a farmer's house at gunpoint at Ragannaguda village of Vanasthalipuram on Wednesday. The offenders -- one of them wearing a mask -- knocked on the door of the house of S. Sanjeeva Reddy around 4 a.m. When Sanjeeva Reddy sought to know as to who they were, one of them replied that it was his younger brother, Alwal Reddy. "Believing that his brother had come, Sanjeeva Reddy opened the door only to see the armed robbers," the Vanasthalipuram SI, Madhu Sudhan, said. While one of them stood at the entrance as guard, other three barged inside and hit the house owner and his son, Balakrishna Reddy, with firearms. They collected money, cash and some saris, bought for the marriage of Sanjeeva Reddy's niece, and disappeared into darkness.
Local hand suspected
The police suspect that some locals could be behind the robbery as one of the offenders wore a mask. "Probably, he was worried of being recognised," the SI said. The fact that they cited the name of house owner's brother added strength to the suspicion. Incidentally, a neighbour, Srinivasa Rao, saw the offender standing at the main door but mistook him for Sanjeeva Reddy and hence did not raise an alarm.
