KOLLAM, MARCH 17. The Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran, will inaugurate a special conference of craftsmen organised by the All Kerala Handicrafts Welfare Association (AKHWA) at Karunagapally on March 19. At a press conference here today, the AKHWA State president, P.P. Ravindran, and the district secretary, K. Babu, said there were no proper development programmes for craftsmen. The State Government-owned Kairali and Surabhi showrooms were the two main outlets for craftsmen to sell their products. However, both these organisations did not make prompt payments to craftsmen. Mr. Ravindran said both the organisations owed huge amounts to craftsmen. No attempts are being made to clear these dues.
