Snow dome promises excitement

By Santosh Patnaik

VISAKHAPATNAM, MARCH 17. Want to have a thrill of your life? Well! The proposed snow dome promises to offer a thrilling experience, once it is set up at the picturesque Shivaji Park in the city, few months from now.

A snowmobile track will give you the feel of taking part in a Formula One race even as you hold on tight to the mobile track sporting warm clothes and gloves. Thrilling head-to-head races will be another option with no brakes. They are very fast and they spin too. Are you game for it?

Fun-loving people can display their skills on steerable toboggans. Amidst continuous snowfall, one can have a dance, listen to wild music and play funky games. Tiny-tots can also enjoy hurtling down the slope with specially designed inflatable tubes.

Rs. 8 to 10 cr. project

The snow dome proposed on an area of two to three acres is expected to cost around Rs. 8 crores to Rs. 10 crores. "We are in the process of finalising a consultant to decide on a private entrepreneur to take up the project under public-private partnership programme," the Municipal Commissioner, N. Srikant, told The Hindu.

To make the project viable, the entrepreneur will also be allowed to start food courts and amusement facilities. Shivaji Park, which is spread over 16.72 acres, was once a dumping yard, before it was shifted to Kapuluppada.

Later, the Municipal Corporation, in deference to protests by the residents of MVP Colony and Shivajipalem, developed the park at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crores in 1998. "In fact, we are excited about the snow dome idea as it will further beautify Shivaji Park," the Chief Engineer of the Municipal Corporation, P. Panduranga Rao, said.
