Temperature

TIRUCHI, MARCH 17 . The city today registered a maximum temperature of 34.4 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature is 22.1 degree Celsius.

Woman's body found

The body of a woman, Vijayalakshmi, was found in a charred state under suspicious circumstances at Mela Anbil in Lalgudi limits today.

The deceased was married to a daily labourer, Santhaiyan, said to be a drunkard, six years ago. The Lalgudi police have registered a case.

Commits suicide

Prabakaran (33) of Crawford in Edamalaipattipudur limits committed suicide today by hanging himself, reportedly owing to some family problems. The Edamalaipattipudur police have registered a case.

Students

taken ill

About 147 students residing in the government hostel near the Anna stadium developed nausea after consuming lunch today. All were rushed to the K. A. P. Viswanatham Government Medical College Hospital, and treated as outpatients, the police said.

Fire accident

An accidental fire, which occurred at Konalai along Chennai main road, was put out by Fire and Rescue Service Personnel attached to the Tiruchi and Srirangam units in an operation lasting about half-an-hour. The operation was led by the Divisional Fire Officer, Bhakthavatsalam.

Held with ganja

The police on Wednesday arrested a history-sheeter on the charge of ganja possession. Nagendran (25) of Keelapudur had in his possession 1,200 grams of ganja. He was remanded. The police have registered a case.

`Poochoridhal' fetches good revenue

Revenue earned during the `Poochoridhal' festival held at the Samayapuram Mariamman Temple near here recently has recorded a sharp rise. A release from the temple authorities said that the income generated during the festival was Rs.3.1 lakhs. It was Rs.1.91 lakhs when the festival was conducted in 2004.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 53.63feet today. The inflow was 440 cusecs and the discharge 900 cusecs.
