VIJAYAWADA, MARCH 18. The Project Director of District Water Management Agency (Neeru-Meeru), Y. Chinnaiah, said the agency was conducting programmes for creating awareness on water management techniques such as "using less water to irrigate more land". In a press release, Mr. Chinnaiah said schemes under the micro irrigation project would be hastened to enable farmers reduce the cost of cultivation through better water managementand get higher yields at the same time. He said drip equipment and sprinklers would be sanctioned to farmers under micro irrigation project in the coming season. "We are planning to accept maximum number of applications from farmers. Till now, 506 farmers in 41 mandals have availed of drip system," he said. Mr. Chinnaiah said drip and sprinkler irrigation was tested in mango, banana and sugarcane crops, he said and added that the farmers had expressed satisfaction with it.
