Run for good health

NEW DELHI MARCH 18. A large number of health enthusiasts of Amway distributors and their friends and family members participated in the "Team Nutrilite Run for Good Health" in the Capital today.

The underlying purpose behind the 10 km run that was flagged off at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here was to highlight the need to maintain good health.

The President of United States-based Nutrilite Health Institute, Sam Rehnborg, led the run. Dr. Rehnborg is the son of Nutrilite founder Carl F. Rehnborg, who developed his first multivitamin and multimineral product in 1934.

While some participants sprinted the initial distance to settle into a steady jog, others chose to walk after a short run.

Volvo bus for Katra

NEW DELHI MARCH 18. The Delhi Transport Corporation has decided to start operation of Volvo buses on the Delhi-Jammu-Katra route from March 20.

The journey by the luxurious Volvo bus has been priced at Rs.700 per ticket. While the bus will depart daily from the Inter State Bus Terminus at Kashmere Gate at 10-30 p.m., it will be available daily at Katra at 7 p.m. The journey is likely to take about 12 hours over a distance of about 684 kilometres.

The Delhi Transport Corporation has made arrangements for reservation and bookings of the journey at ISBT on phone Nos. 23865181 and 23868836 and Scindia House at phone Nos. 23317445 and 23317600.

Inter-faith symposium

NEW DELHI MARCH 18. The Sri Aurobindo Society and the Buddhist Trust, Kagyu Yeshe Gatsal, are holding a two-day inter-faith symposium on "Compassion and its importance to the 21st Century" in the Capital beginning Saturday.

The year 2005 was ushered in with unforgettable memories of one of the greatest catastrophes known to mankind. Despite this terrible tragedy, what was remarkable was the spirit of oneness and the outpouring of generosity throughout the world. To understand and harness this collective consciousness and oneness, the Sri Aurobindo Society and the Buddhist Trust have initiated the inter-faith symposium.

The speakers include Tai Situ Rinpoche on Tibetan Buddhism; L.M. Singhvi on Hinduism; M.V.Nadkarni on Sri Aurobindo and The Mother's Integral Yoga; Syeda Hameed on Sufism; A.Sethna on Zoroastrianism; Jaspal Singh on Sikhism, T.K.John on Christianity, Ezekiel Malekar on Judaism.

100 per cent placement

for IIPM students

NEW DELHI MARCH 18. The Indian Institute of Planning and Management has for the fifth year in a row been successfully in achieving a 100 per cent placement record. Over 300 companies have already visited all the IIPM campuses across the country and over 600 students have been placed comfortably. This year, the institute has also recorded a sizeable increase in its international placement. Over 30 students have been placed internationally in various companies spread across diverse industries. With seven international placement offices coming up at Dubai, Singapore, London, Sydney, Toronto, San Francisco and New Jersey, the IIPM career management cell targets to achieve 150 international placements in 2006.

Freedom fighters to meet

NEW DELHI MARCH 18. A joint meeting of the National Council of the All India Freedom Fighters Organisation (AIFFO) and the All India Freedom Fighters Successors Organisation will be held at Vitthal Bhai Patel House here on March 22.

To coincide with the 99th birth anniversary of the freedom fighter, late Pandit Sheel Bhandra Yajee, the meeting will be attended by prominent freedom fighters from across the country and will deliberate on the prevailing political, economic and social scenario.

The AIFFO working president, Chaudhary Ranbir Singh, will preside over the meeting.

Award for

civil servant

NEW DELHI MARCH 18. The Deputy Resident Commissioner (Public Relations) in Karnataka Bhavan here, B.S. Krishna Prasad, has been selected for the Special Scheme of State Awards for outstanding civil servants for 2004. The award carries a citation and cash totalling Rs. 20,000. It will be conferred on Rajyotsava Day, November 1.

Hailing from Gugare Doddi, a remote village in Kanakapura taluk, Mr. Prasad has several accomplishments to his credit such as surpassing targets in family planning, small savings and file disposal.
