Jammu & Kashmir
By Our Staff Reporter
JAMMU, MARCH 19. The Opposition National Conference (NC) in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today demanded an enquiry into reports that application forms of some candidates, who had applied for various posts in the State Social Welfare Ministry, were found in a dustbin. The proceedings of the House were stalled, as the NC members demanded a reply from the State Government. The NC members alleged that the forms had been dumped even before the formal scrutiny. The Speaker, Tara Chand, directed the Social Welfare Minister, Mula Ram, to give a reply. Mr. Mula Ram said he would order an enquiry into the issue. In a separate development, the State Government has assured the Opposition that an enquiry would be ordered into the controversy regarding the alleged backdoor appointments in some departments an issue which stalled Assembly proceedings for several days. The Parliamentary, Law and Finance Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, said: "The State Government has conducted a preliminary enquiry into the issue and it has been found that there was nothing wrong. Around 150 people were selected in various departments and they were imparted training. Anyway an enquiry would be conducted to bring all facts to light."
