DEHRA DUN, MARCH 19. The names of 32 women Uttarakhand activists have been recommended for Government jobs after they threatened self- immolation as only the male activists were being given the appointments. The list has been sent to the Dehra Dun District Magistrate and more activists would soon get jobs, a spokesman of the Uttarakhand Agitators Rehabilitation Committee ( UARC) said here today. The women agitators are up in arms as only three of them got the jobs while 149 males had been `blessed' by the Government. "This massive discrimination has taken place in this male dominated Government and we will self immolate ourselves if not given jobs soon," the women activists had resolved at the Uttarakhand Martyrs Memorial recently. The women activists had also asked the Ministers and ruling party leaders to stop referring to them as the `matra shakti' that helped them gain Statehood in public functions as they could not cheat them any further. Disclosing the list of women activists whose names had been recommended for an early appointment, the UARC chairman, Dhirendra Pratap urged the women activists not to loose patience and threaten the Government of violent protests like self immolation as they had crusaded for the State in a non violent way. "The Government is duty bound to rehabilitate all male and female activists. Give us some time and in case you want to agitate do so in the way Gandhi taught us," he said.
