Drive to check touts at railway stations

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH 20. Keeping in view the menace of touts and unauthorised agencies operating at the Capital's railway stations, Northern Railway has taken steps to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for train passengers this coming summer.

With touts becoming active during the summer months and instances of unauthorised agencies processing railway tickets, Northern Railway's Anti-Fraud Squad have stepped up vigil and are undertaking drives to crackdown on such fraudulent activities.

A Flying Squad of Commercial, Vigilance and Railway Protection Force has been constituted to check the activities of touts and unauthorised travel agents. Three unauthorised agencies processing rail tickets have been raided by the Flying Squad and cases registered against them in recent months.

Northern Railway's summer plans include a series of arrangements to ensure the convenience of passengers . Opening of additional "May I Help You" and reservation counters at various locations in the Capital, presence of security officials at reservation centres, checking of each requisition form submitted at reservation counters to pre-empt operation of touts and checking of identity of rail travel service agents and admissibility of only one employee of a particular authorised rail travel agency are being made.

Besides these arrangements, an action plan has been chalked out to cater to the needs of the travelling public and an exigency plan has also been drawn up to meet every situation with greater readiness. To serve the public in a more responsive manner, special focus has been made in re-orienting the functionaries of commercial and security departments of Northern Railway.

Role and responsibility of each official has been defined and accountability fixed, while a parallel monitoring team of railway staff has stepped up vigil to check irregularities at every level.
