Blood donation camp

NEW DELHI MARCH 20. A blood donation camp was organised by Navsrijan Human Welfare Society, a non-government organisation, at Gupta Tower-I in Vikaspuri yesterday. A large number of blood donors participated in the camp.

Organised in collaboration with Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and Delhi Government, the camp was held under the guidance of the local MLA, Dayanand Chandila.

Art in modern society

NEW DELHI MARCH 20. The Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, organised "Master Works 2005" that showcased the works of art by students in the Capital recently.

Addressing the gathering, the school Principal, Vinay Kumar, said, "Art connects the artists with the spirit of God". While the students sang the song "Aayega Woh Bhi Din", a poem that talks about the artist in quest of his new creation was recited by another student.

Eminent artist Sanjay Bhattacharyya, who was the chief guest on the occasion, encouraged the young artists with his inspiring words and emphasised the role of art in modern society. He also had an interactive session with the students where various concepts of art were discussed.

Charity show

NEW DELHI MARCH 20. Ghaziabad-based ABES Engineering College organised "Anup Jalota Bhajan Sandhya" yesterday to generate funds for the tsunami victims. The chief guest on the occasion was Vice-Chancellor of UP Technical University, D.S. Chauhan. The programme was presided by the Chairman of ABES Engineering College, Ved Parkash Goyal.

Anup Jalota enthralled the crowd with his magical voice.

Mr. Ved Parkash Goyal said, "Losses due to tsunami have deeply influenced our economy and the entire country is shaken over the loss of human lives and properties. Like every socially inclined organisation, ABES Engineering College, too sensed the responsibility and decided to organise a charity show. The proceeds of `Anup Jalota - Bhajan Sandhya' would directly go to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the rehabilitation of victims."

Bureau of Legislative Studies

NEW DELHI MARCH 20. The Delhi Assembly Speaker, Chaudhary Prem Singh, who is also the President of the Bureau of Legislative Studies, convened the first meeting of the reconstituted bureau at his office here this past weekend to announce the names of the newly nominated office-bearers and members.

Besides appealing to the members to give suggestions for better functioning of the bureau, Mr. Singh said to ensure smooth relations between the legislature, executive and judiciary seminars and symposiums would be organised.

Mr. Singh also announced that the Jag Parvesh Chandra Memorial Cricket Tournament between MLAs and journalists would be held at Major Dhyanchand National Stadium here on April 9 and a Holi-based programme would be organised at Old Secretariat on March 24.
