Temperature

MADURAI, MARCH 20. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 36.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.1degrees Celsius.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam stood at 108.7 feet with no inflow or discharge. The level in the Vaigai dam was 26.61 feet with an inflow of 122 cusecs and a discharge of 30 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 844 mcft.

Fatally hit

A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident at Narimedu here today. Police sources said M. Tamilarasan (21) of Chinnamanur in Theni district was riding a two-wheeler when a speeding lorry knocked him down. The victim suffered multiple injuries and died on the spot. The Tallakulam police have registered a case.

Grievance day

A consumer grievance day meeting will be conducted at the office of the Executive Engineer of Usilampatti division of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board on March 22 for Usilampatti power consumers.

NAAC visit

A peer team from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council will visit Saraswathi Narayanan College here on March 21. The four-member team led by C.K. Kokate, chairman and former Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University, will assess the college for two days, a release said.

Blood donation camp

The Youth Red Cross and National Service Scheme units of American College organised a blood donation camp on Thursday. As many as 124 persons donated blood at the camp, which was inaugurated by the principal, D. Samuel Sudanandha. A team of doctors and paramedical staff from the blood bank of Government Rajaji Hospital conducted the camp.

The Blood Donor's Club of S. Vellaichamy Nadar College, NSS units of the college, Lions Club of Madurai Cosmos and Government Rajaji Hospital organised a similar camp recently.

A total of 264 donors donated blood. The camp was inaugurated by the principal, I. Chandramohan.

Power cut

There will be a power shutdown between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on March 22 in the following areas:

Uranganpatti, Thozhilpettai, Varichiyur, Kalimangalam, Sakkudi, Shenkottai, Thatchanendhal, Vilathoor, Odaipatti, Rajakoor, Ilamanur, Sakkimangalam, Karcheri, Andarkottaram, Karupayoorani, Masthanpatti, Kaavikappan Vilakku and a few places in Othakkadai area, a TNEB release said.
