Legislature & judiciary

Sir, — This refers to Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's address to the Conference of Presiding Officers expressing concern over the distortion of the constitutional scheme of governance caused by the Supreme Court's Jharkhand order (March 21). But what is the judiciary expected to do when an elected representative submits a plea of grave injustice done to him by the Governor and the Legislative Assembly?

Sir, — The Supreme Court intervened in Jharkhand in an extraordinary situation that involved a flagrant violation of the Constitution. The powers of the legislature and the executive also emanate from the Constitution, of which the Court is the custodian.
