Temperature

MADURAI, MARCH 21. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 37 degree Celsius and a minimum of 25.3 degree Celsius.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam today stood at 108.7 feet with no inflow and no discharge.

The level in the Vaigai dam was 26.64 feet with an inflow of 41 cusecs and a discharge of 30 cusecs.

The combined Periyar credit stood at 844 mcft.

Student caught copying

A Plus-Two student was today caught copying at an examination centre here.

The District Educational Officer's flying squad found him indulging in the malpractice during the Mathematics examination.

The student from a school in Melur educational district was in possession of subject material in the examination hall.

The squad seized the papers and prevented him from writing the examination.

Disruption of phone services

Telephone services continued to be affected in certain areas, owing to the ongoing `work-to-rule' agitation by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam officers.

Apart from call congestion and "network busy" response on mobile phones, calls from landline phones from Madurai could not be established to landline phones in Virudhunagar.

There were complaints of "all lines in the section are busy" on landline phones in Virudhunagar throughout the day.

Power cut

There will be a power shutdown in the following areas between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. tomorrow, owing to maintenance work to be carried out at the Arasaradi sub-station: Kochadai, Thuvariman, Doak Nagar, Meenakshi Amman Temple, Karimedu, Arapalayam, Fatima College, Thathaneri, ESI Hospital, Dinamalar Avenue, S.S. Colony, Jain Nagar and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Head Office.
